Feng Shui for Today

Outdoor Water Features
By Chris Blanchard

Using water features in home décor is a growing trend. With the proper placement, we can use these decorative and fun additions to the garden as Feng Shui power tools.

Where you put the hot tub or pond has a big impact on the Feng Shui of your home. These, as well as fountains and waterfalls, are very strong water elements. A water feature placed in the far left area of the backyard will help with cash flow. A hot tub off the back left corner of the house will also help to hold on to finances. Make sure that the direction of any water flow is towards the house, not away from it.

A water feature in the center rear of the yard can have a negative effect on our career and reputation. A client with a hot tub in the center of the back deck complained of being stuck in their job, not being appreciated for the work they did and no promotions. This big water feature was putting out the “fire” that belongs in this spot, in effect dampening their reputation and the ability for their competence to be seen.

The hot tub was moved from the center of the deck to the left side. In a matter of weeks, the client received a raise and was promoted to regional director for his firm. He was offered a new territory of his own, which included a move to a beautiful new home.

Another great place for water is in the front yard. A fountain front and center directly uplifts career and gets things moving. This is the home base for water in Feng Shui. One client had a large koi pond, with waterfall, in the front of his house. However, he was experiencing an unprecedented loss of business and downward trend in his career.

When I visited the site, I found that the direction of the waterfall and flow was away from the house. By reconfiguring the pond and turning the waterfall towards the house, the business did a complete turnaround and the client had “the best summer in 15 years of business” as a result.

Stories like this are not unusual, they are more the norm. Using the big effect that a water feature can have in a positive manner can really make a difference in our lives.
