Are your intentions good? I wonder what his intentions are? These are questions often asked but seldom do we look at the meaning of intention. This word has a large amount of information related to it.

Intention. 1. A determination to act in a certain way, resolve. 2. Import or significance. 3.a. what one intends to do or bring about. b: the object of which a prayer, mass or pious act is offered. 4.a process or manner of healing incised wounds. 5. A concept considered as the product of attention directed to an object of knowledge. 6. Purpose with respect to marriage.

Intend; to have in mind as a purpose or goal. To proceed on a course of action, to direct the mind on.

There is also a paragraph about the prefix meaning of inter. This prefix is derived from intention and means to go within or to be in the midst of.

These are just a few of the meanings that I found in the dictionary relating to intend, intention, intentional.

These words are used frequently in metaphysical studies and workshops. Yesterday I received an email about an astrological aspect that was perfect for setting intentions for the next twenty years. I decided that I would do the best I could to learn about the working of this idea through studying the meaning of the word.

This may all seem to be repetitious but I think it is important to see exactly how much the power of manifestation is in the root meaning of our everyday language. The meanings of words have power. Words have power. Knowing what they mean and using them wisely and with caution is as important as prayer. They say what is a truth that may be hidden in our teachings and belief systems. Most of us are taught that we are victims and the world is a place that has to be fought through and it is only a very lucky few who succeed in life. The truth is exactly the opposite. Even our language and the meanings of our words show us that we are indeed powerful creators of all that we see and share in life.

By just looking at the meaning of intention and the prefix inter we are told all we need to know about using intention to create. It comes from within and is more powerful if others join us in our intentions. Not once does the dictionary use the word try in explaining the meaning of intention. Action is valuable.

My first teacher said that if we need more of anything we should simply manifest it instead of complaining about how much something costs. He also said “ why ask for a loaf of bread when we can have the whole store?”
