The Queen of Cups
Heart of Gold |
| The Queen of Cups is the universal love that exists in every one of us. Her love for life is immense, yet she does not live it outwardly as much as her other sisters of the minor arcana. With the wisdom of emotional experience, she moves quietly, but deliberately from the heart. Her love is constant and loyal. She is the nurturing mother of all the Queens in the tarot. She offers new forms of creativity in our lives and nurtures us during our challenging times. The Queen of Cups offers us unconditional love, maternal love that never dies. The suit of Cups represents emotional experiences, receptiveness, reflection, desire, love, dreams and imagination. They represent receiving, but also giving. Cups show you the way back to spirit, and how your life is flowing. The suit of Cups is the element of water, the feminine aspect, your yin side. Water represents the subconscious and psychic powers. Water's many faces reflect your many changing emotions. Together cups/water represent being receptive and intuitive, accepting and dealing with life's daily emotional experiences. Cups/water also represent love, peace and spirituality. Queens of the minor arcana hold the heart and soul of their suit. From them springs forth life and creativity. They can represent aspects of the self or what is needed, or what is going on in one's life. For a man they can represent a woman, or the feminine aspect of himself. For a woman, the Queen of Cups represents her, or aspects of herself or, feelings and situations in her life. Queens are the feminine side of their suit ruling along with their masculine consort, the King. The queen rules with less force and from a compassionate view. The Queen of Cups represents the highest aspect of compassion and maternal love. She represents the family. When times are tough, you want The Queen of Cups as your ally. Her love is from the deepest well of the universe. She is wise and intuitive. She is passionate and supportive. She comes to you with an open heart, illuminating her compassion for you and all that needs nurturing. She is quiet in her approach and at times she may not seem to be there and yet she is like the sky around you, wether it be dark, cloudy, rainy or sunny, she surrounds you always with the love of the creator. Her vail of water is ever flowing, ever changing, stretching us deep into our intuitive side, to our dreams, to our subconscious, to heart, to our soul, to our inner joy. The Queen of Cups is there to assist us through emotional transitions. When challenges confront you, she guides you to be aware of the smallest joys that brings your heart happiness. That joy that belongs only to you, that joy that does not need anyone or anything to fulfill it, only your awareness of it. When that is found the heaviness of the challenge lifts and shifts a little, letting a little light and love enter. The Queen of Cups is sure of her self and speaks authentically of her feelings and truths, with integrity and responsibility. She does not, can not repress her feelings and will communicate them to you without judgement or criticism. She is a visionary, she knows what she wants and acquires it through the truth and beauty of love. Through her experiences in life, she takes the gift of well earned lessons, combining that knowledge with love into something beautiful and lasting. The Queen of Cups has a reverence for all life, she is the Empress of love. Her love is so deep, that to fall into her well of love, would bring one enormous joy and pain, for she feels the universe at every level and understands it. That is how strong she is. The Queen of Cups can have a shadowy side at times. Watch out for feelings of jealousy, unrealistic ideas and dreams, moodiness, becoming totally infatuated with your emotions and burdens or hiding out for to long. Swimming in the cold muddy currents of water can leave you grasping for unhappiness rather than the love that is offered by the Queen of Cups. The Queen of Cups wants you to trust and love yourself, so that you may follow your heart in creating your dreams and desires. The Queen of Cups holds the grail of life and the treasures of beauty that can be created through your love. Her focus is intent, her love constant, her vision and desire guided by her love and understanding for life and the heart. She rules with a tender and loving hand. Her gentle ways bestow the grace of living life in all its adversities. She asks us to be gentle with ourselves and others, to rule our lives with love, focus, intuitiveness and understanding. And at times of to challenge look for just a little joy and light in life. Though we may not feel it, there is love around us, all the time. Light to your Spirit! Cathy McClelland |
