Unsettling Times
by Reverend James Daly |
| Many of us are trying to figure out what is going on in our life. The things that worked for us up to this point somehow aren't quite working anymore. We can point fingers and say it is the economy, the administration, the stock market or any number of logical reasons. Back in year 2000 we thought the world was crashing to financial devastation. In all outward appearances it had. Similar to the stock market crash of 1929, many thought their world had come to an end. Well, here we are in 2004 and we are still surviving. Some are working and living in a much different manner than they had when the ride was high. What has happened now is that we are doing things differently. More of us are looking at life differently and reacting accordingly. It is a time of introspection – taking that inner look at of and desires. Part of that inner look is about taking inventory of qualities that we bring to the table and how they can best be utilized. Many are pushed out of our comfort zones and into new territory. We have been “tenderized” to seek out our inner strengths and to capitalize on them right now. Time has become a critical factor. It has required us to live "in the moment." With all the uncertainty, we are constantly living on the edge. Even with this uneasiness, there is an excitement and thrill that was passed over during the high flying times of the 1990's. Every minute, every second, we are more conscious of all that is around us. Our family, our home, our finances, our health and our life are no longer taken for granted. They are deep treasures that must be appreciated right now. Change is what life is all about. There is an impermanence that must be recognized and accepted at all times. It has now been brought into focus. The solace that we seek can be found only in living life fully and completely right now. This is not a time to remain distant or angry with family and friends. It is a time to appreciate them. It is not a time live in worry and fear. It is a time to do what is before each of us, one moment at a time and embrace what we do have right now. We can focus on our heart's desire but we cannot live in the future. Our past is over and this is the most precious moment of our life. We all can live and appreciate life, moment by moment. Especially in these unsettling times. Love & Blessings Always, Reverend James Daly |
